Hi there Tech Tippers,

So i recently decided to take my favorite game off v-sync because v-sync limited the fps in this game to 30. to prevent my gpu from going overboard and crashing i used asus's gpu tweak to limit the fps to 60. now I'm seeing tearing frequently. aside from putting V-sync back on is there a way to prevent the tearing?

Strangely enough though 2 years ago in the same game, when i got the gtx 680 dcii it didnt tear the game when i took it off v-sync it just made everything look like it was going faster and would go to 200+fps(or maybe i didn't see it). now if i take it off v-sync with out the fps limiter in gpu tweak, my graphics driver crashes. what could be causing this? is my gpu going bad? also my monitors have remained the same.

Here is where I would keep my frolics if I had any.

Go into Nvidia control panel and raise the driver - level V-Sync to what ever rrefresh rate your monitor is.

Just remember: Random people on the internet ALWAYS know more than professionals, when someone's lying, AND can predict the future.

Is that game limited to 30fps? Or am I reading it wrong...? Also have you checked your heatsink for dust? And your temps in afterburner to see if your card is throttling down?

its limited in v-sync, which is odd because most v-syncs are at 60fps. i think its because its an SOE game that is also on the ps3. many people i know in the game don't use v-sync. they limit it with their gpu software. i assumed that meant gpu tweak for me.

My heat sink is dust free. i recently did a rebuild where i cleaned everything thoroughly the problem started before that. i haven't used afterburner, don't know much about it.

Afterburner is a utility for GPU monitoring/overclocking that can display your coreclock/memory clock and temperatures. I was thinking that maybe your graphics card might be throttling(meaning getting too hot and underclocking itself to avoid damage) but if your heatsink is clean, that shouldn't be the case. :)

i can monitor the temps via gpu tweak. i do so every now and again on my second monitor while gaming. i haven't seen it go over 70 degrees ever. so im at a lose for what could be causing this but ill give it a try too!
