Controller troubles

So whenever I try to use my controller to play a game on my PC like dark souls, where you pretty much need one, I need to unplug my tartarus (Razer tartarus, it's a gaming keypad. Simply more comfortable than a keyboard :P) which windows for some reason sees as a game controller rather than a keyboard. Is there any way to make my controller the default game controller rather than the tartarus? That'd be great to not have to unplug it every time I want to play DS2 or a racing game, y'know?
