My future build: i7 4790k, Gigabyte gtx760, 16gb hyperx fury, 120gb Samsung EVO SSD, GA-b85-ds3h motherboard, monitor: Asus Mx239h (I will be buying second monitor and water cooling during the next year but don't plan to overclock)

PSU: I have to buy it from a local store so I'm pretty limited..

Thermaltake smart se 530w (http://www.thermaltake.com/products-model.aspx?id=C_00001964) - I know it's not the best but is it decent for my build? Is it worth it that I invest more money into Corsair RM550W?

I will be using my computer a lot-... 8+ hours daily (Adobe CC and gaming)

Thanks for reading!

The Smart SE 530w is mediocre at best. Can you link us to your store for better alternatives?

Don't get either of those, they're trash compared to other power supplies.

The RM550 isn't trash.. It's just usually overpriced and pricing will always vary.

For what it's worth, and the components inside, not worth it.

Not worth.. ..what? It's better than many other frequently recommended decent psus.

EVGA, XFX, SeaSonic, and NZXT all offer power supplies that are a cheaper than the RM and are still good quality. Thermaltake stuff, no thanks. Unless it's their higher end supplies I wouldn't touch one.

The reason why it is "not worth it" isn't because it is a piss poor PSU. It was due to that there was better build PSU for the price at the time of release. However, as WoodenMarker has stated, pricing and availability will varies. What's "not worth it" one day may be "worth it" the next. What is "not worth it" in one country may be "worth it" in another. In fact, I've seen 2 or 3 occasions where the RM series was indeed the best option for one I was helping with.

You can't just say it is not worth it without knowing the exact pricing at the time of purchase in comparison to other units in the region that he is from. And the only way to know this is if the OP provide a link to a store that he/she is able to buy from.

FYI, the RM750/850 just had another update. The third revision is now made by a different manufacturer (went from Hipro back to CWT) but it seems that it now has full Japanese caps - including the secondary side. I'm not sure if this had been incorporated for the other wattage units however. Edit: http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/showpost.php?p=110776&postcount=63

I have the same power supply but mines the 630w version and I have no problems or complaints about it.
