ASUS MX299Q Question

Go to solution Solved by Guest Strangerbob,

id wait a month or two for the upcoming lg 29um67... the 29" IPS, 75hz, freesync (NOW THATS AWESOME FOR GAMING)

if freesync costs what we have seen so far, it should cost almost the same as the current 29um65, which is noticeably cheaper than that overpriced asus

oh and 21:9 is GODLIKE for gaming, you will rediscover gaming all over again.... and you will have a better gaming pleasure than everyone who has a 16:9 monitor or three monitor setups

ALL movies are filmed in that aspect ratio now

TV shows are still 16:9, but honestly, the bars at the sides are less distracting than bars at top, bottom

This monitor isn't completely built to game, but will run fine. Movies will be great on a 21:9 IPS monitor, you may get black bars on the sides of certain movies (Will likely happen on a 16:9 anyway).

Current Desktop Build | 2200G | RX 580 4GB | 8GB RAM | CTRL | Logitech G Pro Wireless

Laptop | 2018 MBA 256/16GB | MX Master

I think you mean black bars with 16:9 content (just to clarify)?

Is ASUS MX299Q good monitor for gaming as well as watching movies?

Anyone using this monitor? I'm open for suggestion

AnandTech did a review on that monitor and it performed pretty well with great colours and a 1,200:1+ contrast ratio (typical is about 1,000:1).

It's perfectly fine for gaming, it's the same panel as the lg29um65 which I used before, now I currently have the 25" (same panel and it works fantastically for gaming and also great for movies. But I usually just use my tv for that because I prefer to lay down for that. )

Huh, you downgraded from a 29" 21:9 to a 25" 21:9, what was the reason for that, finacial?

No, my viewing distance is a bit close often because sometimes I like to play without my contacts in, when I do that I have to sit within about 1 and a half feet of my monitor. And at 29" it's way too large. 25" sometimes feels a bit small though but I don't mind because of the extra sharpness. 109 ppi yo. That's the same as a 27" 2560x1440p

Ah right. Sorry for making assumptions, my bad. I'm glad you're happy with it. Although, going on what you're saying, they should meet somewhere in the middle and make a 27" 21:9 display. I think it'd satisfy you the most if they did.

It would actually, I have said a few times on the forum that my personal dream monitor would be this same panel, 3440x1440p gsync and 27" lol. I care more about the ppi for monitors than size,

Well that was a lucky mention. :P LOL

I care more about the PPI for monitors than size.

Because you sit 1.0mm away from them. LOL JK :P

LOL. I understand what you mean though. With using a high PPI device like this iPad 4, that I'm currently using, you definitely notice other displays that have a much lower DPI and are less sharper and clearer. The clarity is most definitely a nice luxury to have. :)

BTW, not sure if I asked (excuse the alzheimer's if I have :D), do you watch many 21:9 movies on that monitor of yours?

Not really, I have seen just a couple and the picture is fantastic but I like to lay down in my bed to watch movies. I have my desk in the corner and in the middle of the  wall my 55"tv and my bed is centered with it for optimal viewing lol. I often play certain games laying down with a wireless controller too.

Ah okay, cool, I bet :). Ah well, we all have our own preferences I guess. :)

Sounds like a great setup. Have you posted pics on the "Show Off Your Setup" thread of your setup?

No I haven't it does not look so fancy because it's always too messy for me to be proud of lol. There is no way of properly making it look show off worthy because I just own too much stuff. It's basically a pc inbetween a crappy desk and a bookshelf with too much stuff on it with a big tv on top. Maybe one day I will clean it up enough I can proudly post pics of it.
