I plan on building a gaming pc for GTA 5 (when it comes out for pc), Call of Duty, CS:GO, Assassins creed, etc.
I opted for an AMD-based pc since it seems like AMD processors have a lot better value.

CPU: AMD FX-6300
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212
Mobo: ASUS M5A97 R2.0?? (Maybe)
RAM: Kingston Fury Black Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3
GPU: Sapphire Radeon R9 280X 3GB Tri-X V
SSD: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 240GB 2.5"
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5"
PSU: EVGA 500W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply
OD:Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer

I haven't decided on the case yet since they're so many options and a wide price range

Please leave any comments or suggestions!  :) (My budget is $1000 USD tops, but I'd prefer to stay in the $700-$900 range)

instead of an ssd, I would get a WD black

He already has a hard drive in his build. However I'd agree that if OP has the money to spare to put a WD Black in, instead of a Blue. Also maybe bump up the storage capacity to at least 2TB, unless you're 100% sure you won't be using more than 1TB in the future.

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.

agreed, but I thought instead of an ssd and WD blue just get any WD black and spare some money for a better cpu or gpu

SSDs are still a LOT faster than even something like a WD Black.

I know, but I would go for a WD Black to save money and spend it on something else

Perhaps, but the way I see it is that an SSD is something you have to squeeze into your budget no matter what. It makes such a massive difference you can't go without one.
