Hey guys. I've got an interesting idea. Could I decently GameStream to my SHIELD Portable using a wireless network hosted by a PCIE card?

This is kinda following on from my potential home server thread:

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/293340-potential-home-server-mainly-using-older-parts/

If I managed to get a relatively inexpensive wireless card working in the system (or even my main rig for that matter), how well do you think I could GameStream to my SHIELD from it?

Bear in mind that I'd be using Ethernet to the computer with the card and then just wireless to the SHIELD.

What do you guys think? Also, do you have any suggestions for wireless cards?

Sig under construction.

I don't even think thats possible without turning your pc into a router with something like pfsense :S

Nah, it's doable within Windows. Example: http://www.7tutorials.com/how-turn-your-windows-81-laptop-wifi-access-point

If I were to build/use my potential home server, I'd probably run a PFSense VM - if that's a good idea.

I imagine so if you can setup the Wireless nic as a WAP. You're going to need a dual band Wireless N adapter as a minimum, ideally it would be a Wireless AC adapter.

Think something like this would be good if I were willing to shell out a bit?

Yeah that would be about as good as it gets for wireless adapters.

Before you spend any money, i just want to stress that i'm not 100% sure this will work. I don't see why it shouldn't but things like this can be finicky.

I agree with you, but seems like it should be fine. Now, the question is; do I really want to try this?
