Question about RAM upgrading

Go to solution Solved by Guest,

1. Just keep the RAM you have and add 2 more 4GB sticks, saving money.

2. Not true, to my knowledge.

3. No need to re-install anything, just add them.

Hi, I'm thinking of upgrading my RAM from 8 GB to 16 GB (yes I actually use a lot of ram), should I get another set of 8 GB (2x4 GB) sticks or should I get a set of 16 GB (2x8 GB) sticks? The reason for asking is that I've read that if you have dual channel it won't work optimal if you populate all the dimm-slots, and it's better to just use 2 slots with higher capacity.

Do I have to reinstall windows after I put more/new RAM in my desktop or is it fine to just stick them in?

Hope you people can help me out here :)
