In the next patch that's coming in few days the missiles will get nerfed and also counter-measures will get buffed. It should be better then. For now the missiles are way too efficient.

flares, chafs, and this is just me but i use my maneuvering thrusters to strafe almost more than I use my main engine.

I usually fly into an asteroid, sometimes they appear from no where. I thought i had gotten away with it until @ixi_your_face asked me why I was spinning.
