I need to connect 18 hard drives to my motherboard. Don't ask why I just need to do it. Is there some kind of special cable I'll need for it? My motherboard is an ASUS x99 Deluxe 

 

Can your controller handle that many ports on your motherboard? Definitely not. You would need an Host Bus Adapter (HBA) or a RAID card to add additional drives past the 10 onboard ports.
