VLC audio pauses/skips

7/10 when playing something in vlc there are pauses where the audio will cut for fractions of a second

tried changing the audio output modules but that doesn't seem to work and downloading nightly builds

windows media player works just fine too

 

windows 8.1

VLC 2.1.5
