Hello everyone.

I'm getting a new CPU in a couple of months. But i'm in a bit of a dilemma.

Should i get a FX-8350 or should i go for a more expensive FX-8370. And what are the differences ? Or should i simply just stay away from 8 Core CPU's and get a 6350 ?

Stay away from the FX-lineup in its entirely if you're gaming because they are pants in gaming. An I3 beats it and an I5-4440 + MSI H81-M33 or P33 beats it in ANY gaming scenario

RIG: I7-4790k @ 4.5GHz | MSI Z97S SLI Plus | 12GB Geil Dragon RAM 1333MHz | Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (1550MHz core/7800MHz memory) @ +18mV(Maxed out at 1650/7800 so far) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Closed) | Sound Blaster Z                                                                                                                        Getting: Noctua NH-D15 | Possible 250GB Samsung 850 Evo                                                                                        Need a console killer that actually shits on every console? Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

If you have the money for a 8370, You would be better off getting a i5.
I would not recommend a AMD cpu higher than the 8350.

But if you already have a motherboard that is compatable, It is better to get the 8320/8350 and overclock it.

If you're just planning to game on a budget, I'd actually recommend even the i3s over the FX CPUs. Simply because their 2 cores are stronger than the FX's 8 weaker cores and work better in many single threaded applications like most games today.

Let's break down the costs now...

CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor  ($158.95 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard  ($68.98 @ OutletPC)
Total: $227.93
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

That's an FX-CPU with a decent MoBo

CPU: Intel Core i5-4440 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($174.99 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: ASRock H97M PRO4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($79.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $254.98

You can build a system around those and the price difference wouldn't be that large.

Laptop - Asus TUF FX504GM

i7 8750H | 24GB DDR4 | GTX 1060 6GB | 128GB NVMe SSD | 1TB HDD

Peripherals

Logitech G102 Prodigy | Nubwo N12

I couldn't agree more!

If you go with an i5 4440 for example, you don't even need a high-end mainboard, a 60$ one would do just fine. (if you don't miss any features)

When using less than a quad core CPU, many games may have some stuttering, And there is also a risk of FPS drops when something else is running in the background.

But  i can agree with you that using 2 better cores is better in most cases.

absolutely no sense what so ever to lock yourself into an AM3+ build right now, just get that out of your head...like the others said you can afford an i5-4460 and an H97 motherboard for the price of an old FX processors and board and CPU cooler and what not.
