So in preparation for getting a new cpu+mobo I want to wipe windows so I can do a fresh install. So how would I just completely wipe windows 8.1 64bit version? Is there some software that I can use to wipe the drive?

Thanks in advance,

Run the Windows Installer and remove the partition and form a new one. The Windows Installer is what's found on the Windows disc.

When you get your new mobo and stuff installed, just load the windows installer and choose advanced. Then just select your hard drive and hit drive options > delete. If done correctly it should show unaccolated space. Then just select that and windows will automatically format the recovery partition and everything. (Dont hit format in the installer)

  1. Boot up Windows setup from your Windows disc.

Go through the setup until you get to "Upgrade" or "Custom" and select "Custom".

Click "Advanced Options".

Delete every partition found and then create a new partition.

Select the main partition (the largest one) and hit "Format".

Then hit "Next" and continue setup.
