850 EVO RAPID 2.0 problem

Go to solution Solved by CWP,

Oh, I see what you wanted to know now.

Before we dive into this, let's take your system's numbers and convert them into MB: Samsung Magician's 15.96GB x 1024 = 16343MB, and your total installed memory 16GB x 1024 = 16384MB.

Now, take a look at:

  • Task Manager -> Performance tab. Take a look at the Total number under Physical Memory (MB). It should be closer to 16343MB than 16384MB.
  • Resource Monitor -> Memory tab (the program can be found under Task Manager's Performance tab), Physical Memory. There should be some Hardware Reserved memory, which will likely be where your "missing" 0.04GB is (about 41MB). Take a look at the Total (closer to 16343MB as well) and Installed fields (16384MB).

When you say "Windows show 16GB of RAM", I assume you are looking at the system control panel, which also reports "Installed memory".

As for that Hardware Reserved part in the resource monitor, unfortunately, this is being used by the plethora of devices found on your motherboard (network, SATA controller, USB controller, audio...) and plugged into your motherboard. There is not a lot you can do about that usage. The more cards you plug in, and the more bells and whistles your motherboard comes with, the more likely this number goes up.

As for why Samsung Magician is reporting the total usable as Actual, only their programmers will be able to answer that. My theory is that it is more useful for the program to determine eligibility if that number comes from total usable memory rather than installed memory (which is unaffected by the dedicated memory used by on-board graphics anyway).

What that screenshot tells me is this: You have 15.6GB RAM. The bare minimum requirements for RAPID is 2GB with a recommended 4GB. In the case of 2GB RAM available, the RAPID system will use only up to 1.5GB RAM for that purpose.

If I remember correctly, there are no settings to tell RAPID how much RAM to use. It will allocate automatically.

Yes it allocate automatically. If you have 8GB ram it use max 2GB and if you have 16GB it use 4gb but 4x4GB its 16gb and windows show 16GB of ram but this stupid program says i have only 15.96GB. maybe there is some way to make the program saw 16GB instead 15.96GB
