I'm building a new PC with GTX780 and an Intel 3770k. I thought of the Sabertooth or the MPower, but I heard that the MPower is better than the Sabertooth. But there are better MB out there than the Mpower.

The MB should just be normal ATX-Formfactor, cause I'm thinking about a Prodigy Mod. Please help me.

You are planning to mod a Bitfenix Prodigy (Normally an M-ITX case) To fit a normal ATX board? Well, what is your color scheme? Tell me that, and your budget then I'll reply.

I like the color scheme of Noctua fans. Deal with it. Forget about the bad memories of the past.

The sabertooth looks AWESOME. If esthetic is a major aspect go with the sabertooth. Not only that but it should last a long time, being tuf and all. The mpower is cheaper, Sabertooth has more sata3. Mpower has more usb3. Sabertooth has thermal armor, radar, and dust defender. Mpower has 3 pci3, while sabertooth only has 2 gen 3 and one gen2. Sabertooth has 2 years more warranty.

Now everything i said doesnt really tell you what side i am on. I just gave you the info, you choose.

P.S. i would go with the sabertooth MOSTLY because of the looks, thermal armor is sooooooo good looking, LOL

Hope this helped :)

Wait your modding the prodigy to fit ATX. Ohhhhh your gonna have a hard time, just sayin its a pretty good case, but its small, and not made for atx. Not saying its impossible, but its pretty hard.

Good luck :)

My budget is around 200€ (around 270$). The Pc is mostly for gaming.

I totally agree with hamzatu2, the Sabertooth looks incredible good.

First priority is functionality and quality, 2nd the color scheme.

Yeah. The MPower is one of the better ATX Overclocking boards you can get.

Wait if the pc is mainly for gaming why the 3770k, it doesnt offer much better GAMING perfomance over the 3570k. But if your running heavily multi threaded applications then 3770k is awesome. I mean you could save money, or better yet spread the extra money out over your other componenets. Such as a better graphics card. Your gaming would benifit A lot if you added another $100 to your graphics card (in most cases) or if you already have an awesome graphics card (which you do), maybe more ssd for raid 0 extreme performance. Or better cooling for the cpu to get higher clocks. Or a better case. The possiblties are endless (not really)

:D

The only reason I use the 3770k is, that I live in Germany and a friend of mine bought it in america and gave it to me. I saved over 100€, about 135$. It was cheaper than a 3570k.

Thats the only reason.

I have the z77 mpower and I can attest to it's greatness! :D  Excellent overclocking and rock solid, haven't had a problem.  Of course there is always the risk of getting a lemon but that shouldn't be a problem since they do a prime95 stability test with every single motherboard.

So you would buy it again. The only thing I noticed in the specs that the mpower uses the realtek lan controller. Is it as good as other controllers or the intel controller?

Bad pings or something?

I would definitely buy it again. The controller seems completely fine to me and have no problems whatsoever.  I play online games and never have a problem.  TBH I have never noticed a difference in the controller of any of my motherboards though. :P

i can strongly recommend you the sabertooth, i got mine a year ago and i'm very satisfied with it. it comes with some amazing features and is veeery solid. asus gives a 5 year warranty because they are pretty sure that it won't break down. it also provides your system a nice and clean look. however the Mpower would not be a bad choice as well and if you are going to run triple SLI someday, you should go for it.

either way, you cant make any bad decision here. its basically getting a good mobo or getting another good mobo ;)

The Mpower should be the best overclocking board for Z77. I never heard of a Z77 board that overclocks better than the Mpower. Don't really like the Sabertooth because you are paying more for the TUF Armor and you will only need it if you want to make a clean build.

Your argument with the TUF sounds pretty real. And as you say, I also never heard of a better overclocker board than the MPower. I thank you for your post.

Just another question, I just saw that there is a gaming/oc board from MSI, called the Z77A-GD65, available. Now I ask, how much are there differents between the GD65 Gaming and the MPower.

I hope that someone answers, and sorry that I change the question after I already found a board.

i am also a former z77 mpower owner. loved it so much i went to the z87mpower max.

One of the best boards i have bought since i have been overclocking ( roughly 13 years)

Highly recommended. achieved 5.2GHz stable on water with a 2500K

I did have one problem with the z77 mpower. it did Not want to throttle down while overclocked even with the eist, c-states, and windows configured properly. i have seen some issues with other msi users having the same problem, on different msi boards as well .maybe it was me or the settings i input but that was my use case.

any z77 mpower owners experience this or know how to get it working right?

I would, in my opinion lean towards the mpower. that board is rock solid.

The GD65 Gaming includes features such as a Killer NIC and the support of 3000MHz ram. The GD65 Gaming has 12 phases while the MPower has 16 phases which means that the MPower is still a better board for overclocking.

I'm using 1600mHz Memory so it doesn't care that the gd65 gaming can handle this much, but it has the killer nic and this thing costs around 100€ if you buy it on amazon and it is already in the gd65 gaming. Is it bad that you have 4 phases less than the mpower.

  • 2 weeks later...

If you want to fit it in a Prodigy case then wouldn't a m-itx board be better? there is some good m-itx m/boards out there, like the Evga stinger z77, and the Asus p8z77 deluxe m-itx.

Not heard of people modding the case to fit ATX boards but if its possible there is many good ATX Z77 boards, all depends on your budget and personel taste.

If you want a clean look build the new gen 3.0 Sabertooth is amazing with all the dust covers and high build quality. then there is a few other manufactures to look / compare to.

got to love Asus components
