Extremely Slow S3 Mini

So I have an S3 Mini. I didn't need much horsepower when I bought it back in 2013. However in the last couple months it has been getting slower and slower. I still have enough disk space and only 12 apps installed, non of which are games. It takes up to two minutes to pull up the phone "app" and often it will freeze and won't turn off for minutes. However as of today, I can't even type properly anymore. For example if I tap "u" on the keyboard it registers the "u" but then I can see it move over to "i, o and p" then it freezes for a second before it choses "0". WTF?!?! 

 

I am a total noob when it comes to phones, so please excuse if I forgot anything obvious.

You could try a factory reset and reinstall the apps.
I had a similar situation with my old S3 Mini and it sorted it out.
 

Also check the reviews on the apps you installed.

As phones get more powerful the apps get more power hungry with each update.

what apps do you have installed and are they the default apps or downloaded from a store?

I got avast, a news app, snapchat, facebook, whatsapp, flashlight app, skype, LTT, a weather app, flipboard

all from store. default apps are only mail, and a few others.

Factory reset sped up my old Nokia Lumia 520 a while back. Factory resets seem to be the best way to speed up a phone, even when I only had like 10 small apps.

 

Also sped up my mums old Galaxy Ace 2.
