So, I'll be getting my case by the end of next week, and I plan to swap out the standard fans the case comes with. Unfortunately, I can't say which case I'm getting, but I know I'm going to need 3x120mm and 1x140mm for this setup. There are a few things I look for in the fans:

  • 4-pin PWM connection
  • Shift plenty of air through the system
  • Very quiet operation
  • Aesthetically, look very pleasing on the eye (not worried about LED fans)
  • Value for the money

So, because of the last two factors, all Noctua fans are out of the question...sorry about that. The Industrial models aren't ugly of course, but they are way too expensive. I have seen fans from Be Quiet!, BitFenix and Corsair, seeing as either of these brands seem ideal for me. But which ones are more recommended?

Cheers :)

Well cross corsair of cause they don't have pwm's...

They do. SP120 PWM. Example: http://www.corsair.com/en-gb/air-series-sp120-pwm-quiet-edition-high-static-pressure-fan-twin-pack

Wait until you get your case and see your temps before switching out the fans.

Someone has not been watching linus'so videos.

They are made for liquid cooling not airflow.

I have been watching Linus's videos, and they can be used as case fans. He even used one as a rear exhaust fan in his first build guide.

Wait until you get your case and see your temps before switching out the fans.

Well, I know that it does have two 140mm fans in the front, but they are only 3 pin. The case can fit the 3 120s in the front no problem, and they would cover a better surface area in a way.

3 120mm's don't have that much more surface area than 140mm's. In terms of fan blade surface area, it's generally ~30144mm² vs ~28210mm².

Hmm...sorry to sound a bit noobish, but I'm confused. I think what I mean is, the three 120 fans would cover a wider cooling area than the two 140 fans (using the Corsair Carbide Air 540 as an example, it's close to the entire thing). As I said, sorry if it sounds noobish. Also, I don't think my question has been answered yet. Be Quiet!, BitFenix or Corsair? Or any other good branded fans?

I thought I just answered that..? Reread my previous post.

Bitfenix and Corsair fans range from good to medicore. BeQuiet! has much better offerings.

I recommended waiting to get your case and see your temps before preemptively buying fans.

Ah ok, sorry, my bad. I will consider BeQuiet! fans, it's only because I don't know how loud the standard fans are going to be. I do like how high quality the BeQuiet! fans are.

thank you, i had no idea about that

Do keep in mind it is a rough calculation and that airflow varies at different points of a fan (most airflow at the edges) so surface area isn't everything.
