Hi!

So I was searching around and found a dell poweredge 1950 and a sell 2800 for $150 for both.

I was wondering if this is a good price for these? I would use them as a file server/game server/general use instead of my current i3 with 8gb ram pc.

Please post your thoughts!

- Dual Gigabit Ethernet

- 2 free PCI-E 8x slots

- 1 free rear internal SATA port

- Front display

- DVD drive

Not too bad - issue with them is that the power draw is ridiculous on that older stuff.

What sort of power consumption are we looking at?

How does the 1950 compare to my current setup (2nd gen i3, 8gb ram, 450w psu)

Also I currently have 4 2tb sata drives in raid with a dedicated controller. what would be my best setup options?

Cheers!

My plan would be to convert the 2800's backplane to use SATA drives, then use that as a networked array, then the 1950 as the "brains" to do all of the other server roles
