Universal FTP solution?

DigitalHermit

Hey there,

I just updated my laptop to 8.1 and now I'm having some troubles with Windows Homegroup (the only other member is my desktop)... Since I'm also planning on running Linux on this laptop and on my desktop, I'm looking for a free universal FTP solution... I tried to run FIlezilla before but to no avail... I also tried VNC but the speed was too slow...

I'm on a 100M network (with plans to go gigabit in 4 years) if that matters...

No, I do not want to depend on a cloud service since the files that I'd like to sync/copy are greater than 20GB....

Thanks in advance...

So, Filezilla is a pin in the arsch...

I'm looking at WinSCP right now...

I'm not planning on sharing outside the network...

For now, the goal is to be rid of Homegroup and go with something more universal... The SFTP protocol comes to mind...

Demolished the Homegroup and had the Workgroup set up again from scratch... File transfer is good for now...

I already know how to do this thing on a Linux-Linux pairing... Next problem will be Windows-Linux and vice versa...

Edit: WinSCP is a client only... or I haven't figured out how to do the transfer properly yet...

Does seem like a lot of fuss which could be avoided by a NAS, but Linux is generally quite happy to access windows shares if you have the samba packages installed.

Cartman - AMD Phenom II x6 1055T 3.1Ghz - 10GB Ram (Mwahahah) - 256GB Crucial MX100 Boot - 2TB WD Red - Gainward GTX 770 - Zalman Insanely Loud CNPS14X - Corsair 230T Orange

Stan - Intel Pentium G3320 - 8GB Ram - 128GB Intel 520 - Raid 1 6TB WD Reds - Bit Fenix Prodigy

Kenny - HP 14 Ultrabook (No name apperently) i3 4130 - 128GB Intel 520

A NAS is an easy way out, but I can't afford one... I'm trying to learn some techniques with Windows while I'm at it...

I'll look into the samba packages...
