quick question.

Go to solution Solved by QueenDemetria,

i count -1- blown capacitor in my motherboard,

its an intel LGA 775, from 2005 i believe (even though we bacught that tower in 2003............... yeah)

what are the chances my 7870 and C2Q 8200 are going to randomly catch flame and explode a new universe into existnance?

Not very likely, but the chances of your motherboard not working or not working after some use is pretty high. I wouldn't risk the chip if I were you("Failure is always an option.").

If you have a blown capacitor, get rid of that mobo. Theres a good chance that the mobo could die and you'd likely loose your attached components. It may be time for an upgrade to a cheap H81 and Pentium G3220 if money is tight.

i already have the proccessor tho. ._.

aaaannnyyybutt...

just asking. i wanted to know because a local pc place (that i also volunteer at) has loads of older hardware, and this mobo only accepts ddr2, but i have ddr3 ram at the ready, so knowing whether or not this mobo would be okay was the line between 2 possible solutions and 1 possible soloution.

looks like i'll be saving up just a tiny bit more cash and hitting up freegeek in the future, on the hunt for a lga 775 mobo. (i can atleast boot this old pentium4 system up and fool around with it for a while. ^~^)

thanks everyone!

Do you have experience with soldering? If not this could become your first project for learning how to solder :)

..................................mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA..........

kinda... i soldered a ring back together, but finding another capacitor, a soldering iron and all that would take longer and be more expensive than just getting another mobo from freegeek.... :/

also me+heat+metal=bad.

The problem is that finding a 775 CPU (at a decent price) is a pain in the ass.

You know, you should go to Goodwill and find some stuff there, i see a LOT OF DDR and DDR2 RAM, some graphics cards, some LGA775 boards, saw either a Duron or Athlon CPU too.

As far a 775 goes, here's one from ASRock that looks decent and won't cost a fortune. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157359&cm_re=lga775_motherboard-_-13-157-359-_-Product
