I have just recently upgraded to an i5 cpu, which also forced me to get a new motherboard as well, so whenever my computer restarts in any way, either it be from it crashing, for example from a blue screen, from me just hitting the reset button in the windows start menu or pushing the reset button on my case, or from just restarting after making changes in the bios, the computer will shut down perfectly fine but nothing will appear on either of my monitors when it turns back on. Whenever I restart, I have to flick the switch on my power supply to turn it off and back on again. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong with it?

These are my specs:

CPU - Intel i5 4690k

GPU - MSI radeon hd 7870

Motherboard - MSI Z87-G41 PC Mate

PSU - Corsair CX600

RAM - Ballistix 8gb (2x4gb)

I don't think my storage devices are that important for this problem

And I have a Corsair Obsidian 750d case

I was having a similar problem with my 4670k and it turned out being the 4+4pin CPU cable not being plugged in the right header.

EDIT: I also had to update my BIOS firmware, since you have a Z87 with a Haswell refresh, that could be a major issue.

And since we're inside the case anyways, other things I read about online were: Using only one stick of RAM, try using different RAM slots, try using the integrated GPU (take you 7870 out of the build and use the mobo's HDMI/VGA ports), use a different PSU, and finally resetting the CMOS battery (that's risky, so its should be the final option if all else fails).

I'll be updating this post with more stuff if I remember what else I tried.

I tried both. Neither worked. I am beginning to think it is a problem with the 8 pin socket on my motherboard since it has not restarted correctly ever since I started using this motherboard

It very well could be, does the computer at least POST and/or boot into the BIOS?

yes

So if it POSTS/goes into the BIOS (I'm assuming automatically, not without having to mess with the PSU), I'd first try updating the BIOS before RMA'ing your mobo. It could be a problem with the boot sequence that can be fixed with an update. Again, I was also having a problem with my BIOS not saving settings, freezing up, and not recognizing drives that got fixed with the update. MSI should have the update with instructions on how to update your mobo on their website.

oh thats not what i meant. It will not show anything after I restart but it will at a regular power on

Damn...well, I'd still recommend trying out other solutions before submitting an RMA, those things are painfully complicated (as the manufacturer wants you to keep the product).

Ya. Sending it back to the manufacturer is not even an option for me anyway. I would much rather have to manually turn off the power and back on again than return it

Personally I think restart is useless I just power off then back on

I agree but when It restarts automatically when I am not at my computer, like when installing drivers or anything requiring a restart, it will just turn off but wont turn back on until i do it so its wastes a lot of installation time
