7.1 surround 3.5mm Question.

TheConfusedGinge

I recently bought a motherboard from Newegg that said it is 7.1 Audio Channels. However it only has black, green, pink, orange, and blue 3.5 inputs. Now the headphones I bought have all of those jacks except it has gray instead of blue. Is it ok to plug in the gray jack in the blue input and it'll work fine or did I royally waste my money? Any response is much appreciated :)

The color coding is just a standard coding for channels. Some don't follow them, some don't even have any kind of coding. The correct way is to read the manuals on both devices. Find out which is the front plug, side plug, rear plug, center/sub plug on your headphone (assuming what you got is the 'true surround' type with multiple channel plugs), and plug it to the jacks accordingly.

Some times the audio drivers will change the line in (Blue) to the last pair of speakers. you'll need to download the software for the motherboard sound and see how it is configured.
