Ram question

Go to solution Solved by TBNRunity,

Yeah I have seen that video before. It mostly talks about gaming. I was wondering about applications and stuff like that.

Ahh, yea. There isn't a noticable difference in games, browsing, etc. The only difference I could imagine is faster render times. And when I say faster I mean marginal. Not enough to spend the extra $30-200 for.

What is the performance difference between lets say DDR3 ram with different speeds? Liek 1600 vs 1866 and up. For regular use, gaming etc? Just curious.

Current PC build: [CPU: Intel i7 8700k] [GPU: GTX 1070 Asus ROG Strix] [Ram: Corsair LPX 32GB 3000MHz] [Mobo: Asus Prime Z370-A] [SSD: Samsung 970 EVO 500GB primary + Samsung 860 Evo 1TB secondary] [PSU: EVGA SuperNova G2 750w 80plus] [Monitors: Dual Dell Ultrasharp U2718Qs, 4k IPS] [Case: Fractal Design R5]

Just about none. I don't think it is worth the extra money for faster ram.

For gaming, nothing.  Though there's no reason not to get faster RAM if it's the same price as 1600Mhz, just in case you ever end up getting into applications that benefit from it.  RAM speeds of 1600-2400Mhz are often around the same price if not within $10 difference.  PCPartpicker illustrates this really well:

http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/memory/#s=301600,301866,302000,302133,302400,402133&m=1,11,12,17,23&sort=a10&Z=8192002

That filter shows the most common RAM manufacturers with speeds from 1600-2400Mhz, and 2x4GB kits.
