Hi guys,

I just got me a new asus strix 970, i put it in, LEDs are glowing, but the card will not be detected by windows. Therefore, i can't install any new drivers, since the setup just tells me he couldn't find any hardware to install drivers for.

Anyone has an idea what to try? :D

Thank you :)

What does it say for video adapters in Device Manager?

It says "default VGA card" or something. I have to translate from German to English, it might not be the exact words :D I was looking wether msi's afertburner could find anything, but nope. Also, geforce experience could not detect any gpu /:

Yes I did, but the nVidia drivers will not let me install the drivers: Before the installation starts, the setup looks for the hardware the drivers are for, but since the gpu is not detected, the wizard can not find anything and will abort the installation process /:

Not yet, but the slot I use ran a gtx 670 until this afternoon, so it will probably be fine. But I'll try it :)

Did you uninstall the previous drivers ?

No, I currently get my video signal though my motherboard

Use the GPU and go to bios and disable the iGPU if you have any troubles.

I tried to leave the old drivers installed first, then I removed them, didn't help /:

As soon as I use the GPU output, i can't get any video signal, so I'm not able to change any BIOS settings

Try plugging the video cable into the gpu. Try all the outputs as some will default to hdmi until drivers are installed and others will use dvi and others vga. It's a mystery which one it is, but make sure in the bios it is set to use the vga adapter.

Okay, so now I gotta find all my cables :D

Update:

I'm not getting any videos signal anymore. Neither from my mb output nor out my video card, even though I didn't tray dvi yet, I'm still looking for the right cable, let's hope the signal comes out the dvi port

I already tried the cmos thing. I switched to DVI as pdv said, now I got my video signal back!

You should definitely be getting some sort of signal. With your cables plugged into your monitor it should say check cable as long as it's not plugged into the gpu .... now plug it into the gpu and if it goes into standby it recognizes the gpu but also recognizes that it's not sending a signal. That indicates that it's not the default display port as long as the drive isn't installed. Hopefully it will save you some time to know whether or not you need to find cables or not.

yeah, that indicates that the board recognizes a vga device and needs the driver installed.

Sounds good to me. I'll try to install the drivers next.

Yes, I'm on my gpu now. So it should be detected, right?

My 7970 did this exact thing to me. Go ahead and try to install the driver. If it doesn't work then update EVERY driver then try again. When I say every driver I mean EVERYTHING. Including your chipset drivers and all of the windows updates. I had it say it couldn't find the vga device until the latest windows update lol.

At the very least your computer is recognizing that it is a display device of sorts and is opting to use it over your integrated display. That is a good sign as it indicates that your gpu is partially functional at this point. I will keep my fingers crossed for you. Let us know if there is an update. I will be online for a couple hours to come if you need to pm me about it.
