Yesterday i finished my first build.

Intel Core i7 4790K

Asus z97-A

G.skill 8gb ram 1600mhz

Coolermaster hyper 212 evo with Arctic Cooling MX-4 paste

Cpu keeps running on 40-50c idle. So what should i look for to make it cooler?

I just saw that all cores keep running at 3.9/4ghz when just looking on desktop.

That s high temps man for a idle machine.

At what speed are your fans running. Otherwise its not a good cooler for an i7.

Could too much Thermal paste cause this?

Yes it could but there is something else that bothers me.

You say it runs on 4Ghz even when idle on the desktop, that could mean one of 2 things:

- Lower C states/Downclocking is disabled in the bios for some reason which would explain the higher idle temps

- You have something running in the background (Be it an application or a virus) that is stressing the CPU enough to be on 4GHz all the time

RIG: I7-4790k @ 4.5GHz | MSI Z97S SLI Plus | 12GB Geil Dragon RAM 1333MHz | Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (1550MHz core/7800MHz memory) @ +18mV(Maxed out at 1650/7800 so far) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Closed) | Sound Blaster Z                                                                                                                        Getting: Noctua NH-D15 | Possible 250GB Samsung 850 Evo                                                                                        Need a console killer that actually shits on every console? Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

It downloads and installs at the same time as well as extract (you download compressed then it needs to be uncompressed)

I get that, but never makes my CPU perform at 40c-50c xD

Diablo 3 download/install makes my laptop CPU go to 60/65C because it has a silent mode below 70C

Desktop cooling > Laptop Cooling

They don't even compare xD

It's an indication when you know that it idles at 40-45

I mean my temps also increases by 5-10C when doing a steam install
