That's not funny.

When I used my anti-static strap to build my computer, before I installed the PSU I had it turned off and plugged into the wall and was clipped to that. Once it was installed in the case I left it off and clipped myself to the case instead, as it was now grounded through the PSU.

Everyone always says that you don't need an anti-static wrist strap, but when you're working with expensive electronics, why wouldn't you spend another $6 just to be safe?

I've never really worried about static electricity when building my systems. I normally just touch the power supply with it plugged in and switched off. I've even done something that's frowned upon - I built a PC while walking on carpet in socks.

Guess it all depends on how much you worry about those kinds of things. Me being someone who worries a lot, I'd rather wear the strap and not have to remember to discharge myself than have to worry about if I forgot to touch the PSU or not and maybe wreck something.

In the end, it's up to the builder. I just think that for $6 it puts my mind at ease, and that's worth the money to me.
