I have an i5 4690k and an MSI Z97M-G43 motherboard. I originally had it overclocked at 4.5ghz with 1.28v. It wasn't very stable and I was feeling lazy so I simply used the MSI overclock genie and it set it at 4.1 ghz with 1.2v. It was stable after 2 hours with prime95 and about 6 hours of arma 3 koth. However, when I idle on my desktop it crashed after about 15 minutes. So I increased the voltage to 1.21v and it lasted a little longer but still crashed on idle. What should I do.

What sort of temps have you been getting?

Good temps. I have an h100i and it never goes over 40 degrees.

I don't see an obvious reason why the chip is unstable, 4.1ghz is quite a low overclock for that processor, maybe you got really unlucky in the silicon lottery.

Think it could be any other components causing the crash, such as some which are linked to core clock like ram, or maybe check the mobo temps of VRAM or Northbridge or Southbridge?.

I did some googling and I got it to 4.4ghz at 1.25v. I had the voltage too low, I was afraid over over volting it but apparently I'm fine with water cooling.
