Broadwell will still be on Z97

 

Skylake will be Z107 or whatever the next chipset name it will be

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

strangly the first google search on the Z170 chipset i see are from WCCF as usual

so i can still build mine then upgrade to a 4690k or just ski pbroadwell and get skylake or skyline wioth new mobo?

 

wonder if skystuff will have ddr4

Skylake will have memory controllers for both DDR3 and DDR4. It will be board-dependent, and a mess...

it will be up to the board maker to either have DDR3 or DDR4 DIMM slots on the mobo or maybe even a board with the two types of DIMM slots

 

those may be costly to manufacture

Hence Intel releasing the UNI-DIMM standard for the transitional period to allow DDR3 sticks to fit in DDR4 slots.

something similar to the time when moving from DDR2 to DDR3 i guess
