The Info

So I finally got CrossFire working,,, Well Sorta.

This by all means is no permanent solution.

Until a CrossFire profile is supported for Far Cry 4 this should work until then.

It worked for me at least , Both Gpu's where maxed out at 100% usage.

Your mileage may vary!

The Fix

post-68968-0-89799200-1420509418_thumb.p

What to do

Step 1 : Open Catalyst Control Center ( Only if your a Crossfire User )

Step 2 : On the drop down menu open the ''Gaming Tab''

Step 3 : Click on ''3D Application Settings''

Step 4 : Add the Far Cry 4 Exe File

Step 5 : After adding the Far Cry 4 Exe File do the following changes.

1. Change the ''Texture Filtering Quality'' to ''Performance''

2. Change the '''AMD CrossFire Mode'' to ''AFR Friendly''

3. Save the changes and then launch the game!

Final Words

Again your mileage may vary like I said in the beginning.

What worked for me might not work for everyone but it should work! ( Until an Official CrossFire Profile is made for the game this solution should work for now )

I'm not sure if anyone has done this before but this is for the CrossFire user's who are struggling to run the game.

By no means will this solution run the game smooth , There still will be Dips in Fps when roaming around and doing missions.

Hope this helps!

Enjoy!

Doesn't work on your "8990"? whatever the fuck that GPU is

The 8990 is a AMD OEM Card.

It's really a 7990.

Until I did this the game ran like crap with CrossFire.

Thanks a lot, it works for me. I get a better frame rate than before. The first card is at 97% load and the second one spikes to 95% (It used to be dead at 0%).

Running on 2x XFX 6950 2GB

Thanks a tonne! :D

Why?

What happens when you use HighQuality?

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

The whole point to this fix is to run the game smoother with crossfire.

I haven't tried the high quality option

If it works with High Quality Filtering then those 'Performance' instructions can be deleted, as 99-100% of people prefer the highest Image Quality.

I only bring it up because I figured you'd had tested it and I wanted to know if 'performance' is the fix or if its the AFR only instruction.

The point of providing fix's is to nail them without variables unknown.....

Well sorry to break it to you but I'm that 1% who rather have smooth game play over how the game looks.

I provided a temporary fix until a official crossfire profile is supported.

The game runs 95% better with crossfire with this fix than without it.

So you either like what I did or you don't.

If you read the post I did say this is for ''crossfire only'', if you don't have crossfire don't worry about it.

Simple as that.

SLI is still broken as balls in that game too. Ubisoft is just terrible. Image ghosting that requires a game restart to get rid of every time you open any sort of menu in game (including the map). And the only way to fix it is to play single card or turn off aa and ambient occlusion entirely or max them out.... WTF

Yeah I heard SLI was pretty bad with Far Cry 4.

But I agree with you, Ubisoft has been terrible lately.

Thank you so much, works like a boss.

I can confirm that performance can be changed to Quality. Dropped me 2 fps. Im running 2x R9 290 and run 2560x1440 all ULTRA @ 62 FPS now with drops to 51 fps. Frame time doesn't come over 20ms. Without this fix I had 20-28 FPS same settings.

EDIT: For the sake of it: What a beautiful game

Glad I got the game for free with a samsung SSD, as it's been broken for me ever since.

Play with a GTX 980 and randomly crashes to black screen. Only game in my library that does this, so not hardware failure.

  • 1 month later...

I got reallllly excited after trying this fix. Because the second card ran at 1050 by 1250 all the way up until the loading screen...... Then dropped to 300mhz by 150Mhz..... (Got a external screen that monitors) Fps increased but that was at the expense of quality. I didn't do a side by side for you guys because nobody really gives a fuck.

But, it sadly did not activate the second card.......

I've been using dual cards since 2006, even moved up to Quad GPU on my old MSI board a few years back.

When technology can't handle software, doubling up should fix that!!!! That is the whole point of SLI/Xfire... Yet.... over 10 years since it was created, it still isn't being used???? Wtf? Like literally? WTF?

There is a endless oasis of technology at the disposal of developers and they are playing for the bottom 60%. Yeah they are going to buy the shitty games, but how are you moving the industry forward? I remember alllllll the videos I watched for Half Life 2. Tech seminar after tech seminar all at age 14... I knew how that game worked to it's core before it ever came out.

Now.... Where are we????? Arguing over which is better Nvidia or Radeon (Cough... Cough...) excuse me AMD... Basically Intels top competitor since the 80's and Nvidias top competitor since the 2000's joined forces.... YET!!!!!!!! Dual GPU setups are stillllllll poorly supported. It's utter BS.
