from what i managed to figure out after a quick search when i was looking at its compute power, its around a GTX 260, but it does have a newer architecture, and more VRAM, and support for DX11/12 :)

It won't give you a good gaming experience at 1080p just keep using your laptop display and you can crank up the setting to med-high on most game and get a decent frame rate. http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-840M.105681.0.html you can find more about the gpu in the link there are alot of gaming benchmarks in there too

This will perform poorly, if you plan on doing any serious gaming(especially on 1080p) on a notebook go for a 850 at least. The difference is kinda big

you can run most games on intel integrated, are you suggesting intel integrated is good for playing games? running is not good enough.

Doesn't run anything at 768p medium ? It run about 80% of those game at medium setting with 30 fps that is good enough for the op

I have a gt840m laptop with same processor, double ram, and a 1080p screen.  I can play most games at medium settings at fairly buttery smooth 30-60fps. (games such as CS:GO, Alien Isolation, Sniper Elite III, Portal 2)  I don't have any new games to really test it though.

EDIT: AA is basically off though

i am thinking of doubleing the RAM too, since its the only thing i can upgrade, then why not upgrade it to the max

i believe the medium 60 fps 1080p for portal 2 and Cs:go part but for sniper elite 3 and alien isolation there is no way you can get that frame rate at 1080p

A 260 can run Alien: Isolation from 50-60 fps on high settings, how is this hard to believe?

The 840m reach around 40 fps on medium 768p. I find it hard to believe that it can reach 30 fps at 1080p

I have an Acer Aspire V3 572G 55FT with the 840M, and it can run most recent games at decent graphical settings. Some of the newer games you do need to tone the graphics down a bit though. Assassin's Creed 1 runs at max settings and max resolution smoothly at ~30 FPS, which is playable to me. Bioshock 1 runs roughly the same, so does Prototype 1. Saints Row 3 I can run at medium-high settings, I have everything but post-FX on, and at max res. Runs smoothly at I'd say about 25-30 FPS. Post-FX drops the FPS down a bit though.

I'd say it's a decent card, it will run recent games at low to medium settings, and more later but still good looking games at higher settings. Not something that will last generations, but still decent IMO. And in my case, much better than the old hunk of junk I'm still using (Intel HD Graphics).

Specs:

Processor: 4th Generation i5 4210U Dual Core @ 1.7GHz, TurboBoost up to 2.7GHz

RAM: 8GB DDR3 L RAM

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 840M 2GB

HDD: 1TB WD

OS: Windows 8.1

Maximum Resolution: 1366x768
