I'm currently in the process of sending my 'faulty' GTX 760 OC for RMA.

The issue was that certain games, primarily DirectX 9.0 based, kept crashing with a loss of signal, then displaying the error message 'Display driver Nvidia Windows Kernal version... stopped working and has recovered'.

Having read a few threads about power limit it occurred to me that maybe I have exceeded or come close to my TDP and this is causing the issue.

I own a Corsair CX500 500W PSU. (80+ Bronze)

I researched that my PC uses:

AMD A8 7600 LOAD TDP: 107W

GTX 760 Twin Frozr OC LOAD TDP: 286W

WD Cavier Blue 1TB LOAD TDP: 6.8W

Overall that's around 399.8W power usage, leaving 100.2W (Plus some other traces of power usage e.g. RAM)

Note: My components are not overclocked above the MSI factory overclock.

Could this be the issue? Second opinions welcome!

I would try buying a 600W PSU and testing but my RMA is limited to the 16th Jan so I don't really have time.

Thanks

your PSU should have no issues powering your GPU

yea it seems like a faulth with the GPU

test with the returned GPU and see if this problems comes back

'faulty'

I just want to get this out of the way: TDP =/= Power consumption. They are related and similar, but not the same. I can link you to a video further explaining(if you want).

But on topic: It does sound like you do have a faulty card and a heat issue. Do you know what temperature your card is running at when it crashes? Doesn't matter much since a RMA is looking like your main option, but it would be good to know.

On Heaven benchmark 'Extreme HD' 1080p the temp does not exceed 65degrees. So I dont think heat is an issue.

Could just have an unstable card, which unfortunately happens with a small percent of cards. You can try messing with different drivers(like different versions), but I would personally just RMA.

The current Nvidia drivers have a problem with directX9. Wait for a patch.

P.S. Your GPU shouldn't be using that many watts or is that system load wattage? Your PSU wouldn't be able to provide that much wattage from a daisy chained pcie cable because the amps would be too low and most gtx 760 coolers aren't made to handle 300w anyways. It would probably need LN at 300w o.0.

This figure is from the internet using the exact same card so slight differentation will occur. Remember this is an aftermarket cooler!

Im using one 6+2 pin pcie cable and another pcie power cable using 6 of the connectors.

I have tried over 7 older drivers. Not to mention dozens of other fixes.

Well, 347.09 has a directX 9.0 issue. Games like borderlands the pre sequel crash. Test games that use DirectX 11 or revert to a previous driver that is known to be stable.

That is load TDP then not the GPU on it's own. I was like dafuq when you said 300w. Your 760 on it's own is using nowhere near 300w, your CPU etc is included.

That solves that issue then! I guess I got really confused adding up! Thanks

Games like: Mirrors Edge, Slender 2, Outlast and Train Sim 2015 and skyrim all crash.

Far cry 3 and Bioshock Infinite dont tend to crash.

No problem, hopefully Nvidia will sort the issue out soon; it's really annoying me too xD (347.09 is better than the one before it by like 10x for me so I think it'll be gone next driver release).
