So I am pretty set on getting the core i5 4690k, I just wanted to know how well would it perform in multi core tasks such as video encoding, and rendering, and such, compared to the 8350? Also in the future I want to upgrade to the 4790k so how does that compare also?

SHAMEFUL DISPRAY

yes they are pretty close...here look at LTT cinebench results it will give you a great idea on multi-threaded performance:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AlC81MjwelBgdEZNV3l6aHl1eUNwSUR4Rml0MXMzN1E&usp=sharing#gid=0

as you can see an overclocked FX render slightly faster than an overclocked i5 but the amazaingly stronger intel cores will far outwheight this slight disavantage in most cases especially in regards to gaming.

this tells you everything

"Everything" ??

It doesn't even mention a single i5.

Unless you already know how the i5 would perform it doesn't really help which much.

In terms of relative performance, I think the 8350 is better in terms of video rendering etc.

However, my 3570k (two generations old now) is still better than 99% of what most other people that I've talked to have seen.

It's only when the videos get longer that you will really feel the benefit of the more powerful processors.

Compatible with Windows 95

3570k is only one generation old...it's ivy bridge.

Haswell Refresh was technically a generation, according to Intel anyway (or at least for the point of my post)

no it's not it's the same architecture...the cpu support the same instruction sets and appart from the thermal interface material and 2 added capacitor to increase stability nothing has changed.

broadwell will be the next generation cpu's.

and yes cinebench is the best to tell on mutli-threaded performance its a full on rendering benchmark...nothing better actualy exist

well..it is actual rendering...try it out and see for yourself!

here's what it looks like...it does render from the CPU directly...

i would say you need to run an 8350 at 4.8ghz+ to safely beat the average i5 4690k.

Rig Specs:

AMD Threadripper 5990WX@4.8Ghz

Asus Zenith III Extreme

Asrock OC Formula 7970XTX Quadfire

correct...and here is cinebench single-threaded results...this is laughable as a core 2 duo takes the lead over the best FX results at 5.35ghz...yes sir!

I got 8.00 on my 4670K...

That means even a 4.8ghz FX8350 is slower in multithreading +)
