AMD 760k overheating

Go to solution Solved by DigitalHermit,

Use aida... HWmonitor was never accurate for me...

I tested it by setting CPU Warn Temp to 60C in the BIOS/UEFI and ran Cinebench... HWMonitor read 92C, the alarm went off... Reboot, set the Warn Temp to 70C, try again...

HWMonitor read 92C, but the alarm never went off...

Aida64 had the most accurate reading...

My brother just got a new i5 so he gave me his old AMD 760K to put in my computer that's not all that great at my moms house that had a Celeron of some sort in it. I had just got a after market cooler for my Fx-8350 in my other rig. So I decided to but the fx-8350 cooler on my AMD 760k. After boot the idle temperature was ranging from upper 60s to low 70s. So I thought it was the cooler and put the stock AMD 760k cooler on it and it ran in the 80s idle. Anyone know what's going on? The atmosphere inside my case is almost room temperature and I have plenty of fans. I also noticed the area around the fan wasn't getting hot. As if the cooler wasnt collecting the heat. I tried reinstalling thermal paste and nope. I'm really confused.

My GTX 970 carries me to global.

What are you using to monitor temps?

Digital Hermit was right it was HW Monitor. I tested it with MSI Click BIOS and the temp was in the low low 50s with Cinebench
