Changing drivers from nVidia to AMD

A few years ago I went from a GT610 to a 7770 and the drivers crashed every 15 minutes, now since I run a GTX 650 and I'm moving over to a R9 280 I'm afraid the problem might occur again.
The main question is, how do I completely uninstall the old nvidia drivers without having any problems with the AMD drivers in the future?
