It depends on your settings that you want.

oh yeah just 3 monitors 1080p 60hz

You didn't say what call of duty game(s) you play or what you consider to be "respectable frames".

But I would guess that you can run call of duty games on 60+ fps max settings, I am not sure about CoD AW since it's bad optimized but I think you should be able to run it pretty good.

On Bf4 It depends on your cpu but at least high settings I think.

AW has really good optimization I hit the multiplayer frame rate cap with just 1 770 and running SLI both my GPU's sit around 50% load and still hold the 91FPS cap that the multi player has. Thats on Ultra too.

Really?

I've heard that 290x's and other high end gpu's can't play it on ultra stable ..

Is it only against amd it is bad then?

Yeah the high end GPU's have been having alot of issues with it, AMD has been pretty shafted with optimization on pretty any game that has Nvidia PhysX in it now.

Do you think 970 will be enough for a single 1080p monitor, gaming the next couple of years?

I might buy it in 2-3 years.

It would be plenty, I got my 770's last year, and I have to already upgrade because of VRAM issues.

This is not true, I have three 1080p monitors running on a single Evga gtx 980 sc @ 1550mhz and on bo2 with all three screens on Ultra I run about 140fps. However if you want to play on all three you are going to need widescreen fixer and may I add cod and battlefield are some of the worst games to play on three monitors. One is much better in my opinion
