Hello guys, I have some new overclocking results with my cpu that I want to share. I had my 4790K @ 4,7GHz under 1.290V for some time and today i tried going up to 4,8GHz. I got it stable for short test so far (15 min) at 4,8GHz with 1,387V? 1,408V? with average temps 69,2°C and max peaks 91°C. It´s set to adaptive voltage 1,350V with positive offset 0,015V.

Here are my questions:

-Do you think thats too high voltage for 24/7 OC? I want the CPU to last at least 4 years.

(I use my pc a lot, let´s say +/-7h games, +/-1h rendering and some random browsing and watching movies every day + sometimes I dont turn the PC off overnight)

-What program should i belive Aida64/CPU-Z or Asus AI Suite 3 for reading CPU voltage?

-Are those temps OK if there are often jumps over 80/85°C while averaging 69.2°C?

I will really appreciate if someone can give me these answers, because I found a lot of questionable topics and recommendations.

Here is the screen for more info and software I have used.

You really don't want to be over the 1.3V zone with an Intel CPU, it'll kill it quite a lot faster. The difference between 4.7GHz and 4.8Ghz isn't worth almost 1.4V. For reading temps/voltages I check with Corsair Link, HWMonitor & CPU-Z, they're all reliable in their own right. Just see if they are all around the same.

(My i7-4790k is at 4.8Ghz @ 1.27v by the way, and it's a 24/7 OC and I hardly ever turn off my PC - I'm considering dropping down the OC a bit to give it a bit more longevity, just food for thought.)

That Voltage is way to high!!    Better to crank it back to a lower clock speed and lower voltage.   I get a stable 4.6 at 1.25 and could probably go lower.  That bit of extra speed is not worth the heat and damage to the CPU.

Tell my tale to those who ask. Tell it truly; the ill deeds along with the good, and let me be judged accordingly.

1.34 is about my limit, dial it back a bit 4.7 vs 4.8 isnt really worth it

Yeah, for an 24/7 stable OC, Don't go over 1.3v at the most 1.32v. You'll get more life out of your CPU Anyways. Getting 4.7Gigs at that voltage is pretty good and you don't wan't to get to the point where temperature is sacrificing performance, keep that in mind :)

1.4v is pretty much killzone territory where your CPU could encounter lots off errors for an Intel CPU and permanently damage your shit.

Also for voltages some BIOS systems are good depending on the Mobo and CPU-Z is good, any stress test programme will do :)

Alright, I guess 4,7 at 1.285V will have to be enought then. Thanks guys

PS: I will be back soon playing with my GPU :)

I suggest downclock to 4.5 and stabilize it between 1.23-1.25V . my chip can do 5.13ghz at 1.351V and it was stable but there was no point killing it fast . no i'm running it on 1.213V at 4.5ghz . for only +200-400ghz this is not big difference . 4.8 or 4.5ghz you'll get almost the same results in gaming and even video rendering you will not see more then 2-3 mints difference . so its better to save your chip rather then killing it fast.
