Lots of problems

TheMightyNoob01

So I started the new year off with a great start. Felt hungry, got up got food (left PC on with firefox open, nothing else open) came back PC had restarted. Logged on, firewall was broken, antivirus was broken, lots of stuff was broken.

So I've got the firewall and antivirus working. The BFE.DLL had gotten corrupted.

So I still have a few issues.

1. To start with: I can't access internet options. search 'internet options' in start menu, click on it nothing. Go to 'control panel' 'networking and internet' click on 'internet options' nothing. Open internet explorer click on 'tools' 'internet options' nothing.

I checked regedit for internet explorer, but could not find it under:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SOFTWARE/POLICIES/MICROSOFT
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/POLICIES/MICROSOFT

2. Metro apps are not opening, click on them goes to load and sends back to start screen.

running windows 8, malwarebytes, spybot, windows defender.

argghhh. Any help/assistance appreciated.

No I do not have a backup, no I don't want to reinstall windows as I will be building a new system when new intel cpu's come out in a few months time.

I will update if I discover more problems, or resolve it myself.

sounds like a bad malware or maybe you are not so lucky seeing that something happened to windows 8.1........

No, I'll give it a try after the WAN show, fingers crossed.

Unfortunately the only restore point before the problem is 2 years old.

Your OS is damaged.. I dont think you can bring it in original state so do system restore or reinstall those are your options

  • 2 weeks later...

Just a quick update: I refreshed windows and re-installed all of my programs. I now have a system image so this won't happen again.
