Graphics Card Decision

Go to solution Solved by multitasker451,

a single 980 will power 1440P easily

since your budget can get you a GTX980

go for it

and later upgrade to SLi for more power

There are just so many choices for graphics cards out there and so many videos about those graphics cards... I'm confused.

My budget for my first gaming PC is around $2000 (and I'm willing to go slightly over if needed).  I know the minimum I should spend in that region is about $300 (i5 or i7 build) but messing around on pcpartpicker I could afford one closer to $500 depending on the build (I'd have to go with an i5 processor).  With a ~$2000 build, would the $500 card make more of a difference than a $300 for gaming?

Also, I would like to add another graphics card in the future to boost performance, and I was wondering if there was a certain graphics card in my budget that performs well in dual sli.

we need to consider your monitor size and res you want to play your games at

you want 1440P or 4K?

Ultra settings with AA?

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

1080P at a minimum.  I don't need 4K, monitors I've been looking at are mostly 1080P.

Edit: However, I do like the BenQ GW2765HT (http://pcpartpicker.com/part/benq-monitor-gw2765ht) quite a bit.

The BenQ monitor I've been looking at (http://pcpartpicker.com/part/benq-monitor-gw2765ht) supports G-Sync.

I lied; it doesn't support G-Sync

I do like that monitor, and there isn't one in my price range that supports G-sync.

Will that card support G-Sync if I go with a monitor that supports G-Sync in the future?

all nVidia cards after the 650Ti supports G-Sync

it just a matter of if your GPU can output that high res and high fps
