I've recently bought the Hyper X cloud headset and really, really, love the noise isolation with the volume cranked up.

However if I get called by a friend from somewhere else in the apartment I can't hear them, at all.

Whilst normally this isn't that serious an, this would be fairly problematic if I were to get robbed or "swatted".

So, I was thinking, is it possible to use a microphone giving visual feedback to react to these sounds?

Are there any programs that could overlay a microphone reading on my display? So if I were to be called,

I would see a peak in the microphone and know something is up. Considering headphones are fairly popular for gaming

at least in my experience, and that quite a few people do worry about spatial awareness, surely there must be something for this.

Yeah my parents got really mad at me because they and I quote "Scream at me for 5 minutes and I don't hear them"

Then instead of wasting your time come tap me on the shoulder

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

1st world problems: My headphones isolate noise too well  :P

No but seriously, I doubt the mic on the HyperX would pick up outside noise that well, they're made to counter Timmy screaming in the other corner of the room and pick up your voice only.

Nope... Never pays. And today I'm supposed to finish his computer. Think I'm going to replace his error sound with really loud bombs and nukes.

lol, do that .bat file virus, and put it in startup. You can make the computer turn off in a specified amount of seconds. Also, change the startup sound to a loud zap, so it sounds like it's shorted out or smth

There are simple ways. Like buying motion sensor alarm system. You should get basic one for $50 or so. As for phones, you could do as I in LAN, leave it under monitor where you can see when screen wakes.
