CM Storm.

If you're not sure about which key to go for, it's hard to go wrong with Cherry MX Browns.

Personal opinion: the most accessible switch is probably the blues for those who have never tried mechanical switches before.  My first keyboards were the Razer Black Widow Tournament Edition, and more recently the Thermaltake Poseidon Z.  Both are fine keyboards, but I will share my experiences with both:

Razer: The size of the keyboard is perfect for gaming since it can allow you to set your hands closer together to help with a slight disconnect some gamers (myself) experience when your hands are too far apart from one another.  The switches have nice actuation with excellent tactile feedback, though it's almost too much feedback for me personally.

Thermaltake: Their keyboards use the Kailh switches, which came about when the exclusive patent CherryMX had on the mechanical switch design expired.  They are NEARLY identical, however in practice the Kailh switches have a tiny bit more force required to actuate the switch.

Both boards offer great build quality and no-nonsense operation, and both come in different sizes (they are technically different models with more features, but software and extra keys aside that's basically the case).

I've included a pic explaining the differences between each of the mainstream switch types that CherryMX makes.  I have also included a video that has typing sounds for all of the main switch types (both sourced from WASDkeyboards.com)

Browns could be a nice compromise and from there you will know for certain if you'd like to have more actuation force and more feedback, or less of both, but it's hard to give advice on the subject: it really depends on personal preference, and personal preference can only be built through personal experience.

Just don't give too much credit to the "blue for typing, red for gaming" talk someone still likes to inflate. It's of course true that writers tend to prefer Blues (or buckling spring) and I'm among them, but I would never use Reds in game as well, though a lot of people do prefer them.

If I didn't have the faintest idea, I'd go with browns, it's hard to be really disappointed since they can't have the cons of an excessive tactile feedback or the absolute lack of it.

I am torn between these and I have never owned a mechanical keyboard, which one do you think is better for a new mechanical user?

CM Storm. I'm on a Quickfire Rapid Limited with Greens. 10/10, best keyboard ever.

Also, for the keyswitch preference, check the thread in my sig.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.
