Dear TechTippers,

This is my first real post on the site, so YaY \o/

But I come to you with a problem. My Medion laptop with windows 8.1 no longer boots up.

Here is a rundown of what has happened so far during the boot up process:

1. Laptop boots up -> Black screen for about 3 or 4 minutes -> Black screen with random error codes and the words: Windows is missing some files.

2. See number 1, but after the black screen with the error code I get send to the BIOS. I exit the BIOS and the whole story repeats itself.

3. Laptop boots up -> medion logo shows up -> Blue screen of Death v.8.1 appears with error code 0xc0000185. (also option to go to UESCI firmware ends up in BIOS. See scenario)

Now, I have tried the recovery and installation CD. I also brought the laptop to an IT shop who, with sheer luck, had it start up. He then cleaned it with anti-malwarebytes and thats it. It booted at my home once, and then the same boot problems happened all over again after i shut it down (which was a sour mistake). The IT guy said that he simply waited for around 20 minutes, but its not happening for me even after 3 hours. (it usually ends up at the BIOS menu and stays there)

Now i have a few options:

A. Pry the laptop open (by an expert) and use the HDD as an external harddrive and reinstall windows on it.

B. Try to see if i can get it to work in SLAVE modes (hook it up to my pc through SATA (dunno how this works, a friend said he could do so)

C. Send it to the manufacturer.

If I try either A or B my warranty will expire, so I am not to keen on doing them unless you guys if either will work.

TL;dr

Should I try to use method A, B or simply resend it to the manufacturer ©.

Greetzzz,

               Simon

Have you tried reinstalling Windows?

If you can get the computer to boot up, try scanning for missing file. Just run the CMD as administartor and write ´sfc /scannow´. This will scan for and download any missing files.

Other than that, reinstalling Windows seem like the best option.

Yea, the whole problem is is that the laptop doesn't go as far as truly starting up AT ALL. It gets stuck in one of those continous boot loops. Reinstalling windows does seem to be the only option, but as stated in my post, doesnt work. (aka CD goes in: laptop says press any key to boot from cd -> press key -> boot loop again)

This also means that im unable to open the CMD window :S
