I've recently installed a new PSU (I think it was a corsair 800w) into my brothers computer and it boots up fine and runs perfectly, that is until it needs to be turned off.

After it has shut down it waits like 5-10 seconds then boots itself back up and there is like a slight zap sound every time this happens.

Is this a faulty PSU?

Maybe you switched the Reset plug and the PWR around and didn't notice :3

May be - just check your BIOS settings to make sure that WOL isn't enabled; I had that issue.

It's not enabled.

No I just checked and they're in the right place.

ok i may know the answer to this.

in the bios, change the setting in power/after power failure/boot settings (gotta go find yourself, diff bios diff stuff)

Power on/Last state/power off

change to power off to ensure it stays shut.

If there's a slight zap, could be the power supply shorting on something?

If you've still got the old PSU, try fitting that again and seeing if it'll shut down and stay down? If so, I'd say it's pretty much a given it's the PSU

if you replaced the PSU and this happens

it most likely you didnt install the PSU properly

check all your connections are fully in
