***Before you guys go crazy about how I should know where I can and can't go to avoid viruses please note that this is strictly for my parents.***

Alright so here is my problem, my parents want to move away from Norton 360 and get something that is free, but gets the job done. I have advised them to use malwarebytes along with some free antivirus protection, but I don't know what they should use. My dad is hooked on Avast after doing some online searching, and I am currently checking out bit-defender. Any suggestions as to what they should use? I see mixed reviews online and figured that I would get a better answer by asking here.

Avast. Only thing I would recommend. AVG is a never, since it detected itself as malwalre and deleted itself.

REALLY???? Holy crap xD that's too funny.

You remember the thread "Antivirus test 2014 is out"? I post that there and got like 60 likes from that. It was that funny.

Maybe AVG was depressed and committed suicide. Poor AVG.

@princedylan101

In terms of protection Bit-Defender, Norton, and Avast are all very similar in what they provide (I'd rank them in that order).

TBH I'm not aware of any anti-virus suite that offers much more than they do.

I do know that Comcast offers Norton free, and that Bit-Defender is 1 year free right now.

I'd say just pick one out of a hat and run it.

Then run Malwarebytes full system scan once a month.

Other than that just don't do anything stupid online; don't click fishy ads, don't visit fishy sites,etc.

And on that note, Adblock is also fairly good for security since it prevents pop-ups and other ads which could be used to infect your computer.
