Hi all, I got my first few bits for my new build PC today! this is the first opotunity ive had to build a proper gaming pc! Ill be using a HAF X case i was bought 3 years ago that has housed my dell PC thats roughly 6 years old maybe more! Im aiming on doing some streaming and some video editing in the future aswell. Tomorrow i get the rest of my parts mailed but with whats left of tonight im going to remove some unwanted parts from the inside of my case to increase airflow.

I air dusted my case with a compressor so its as clean as its going to get.

My parts so far

Intel core i7 4790k a1150

MSI x97 gaming 5 mobo

4GB MSI GTX 980 gaming 4g twin frozr v

16GB x2 8gb corsair vengance pro series (2400) 11-13-13-31 XMP

240 intel SSD 730 series

1TB HGST travelstar 7k100 Sata 6gb/s 7200 RPM 32mb cache 13 ms

Cooler Master V8 GTS CPU cooler

Corsair GS 800 power brick

Only thing i have worked out properly yet is my OS. I have windows 8.1 pro that i bought on offer a while back but ive only just realised im meant to get a new copy for a new pc? i thought if i was moving my hard drive to my new build it would be ok, but now im unsure? if anyone knows please inform me :D

As i said this is my first build so im looking forward to it! Any advice, comments welcome :)

Asking if its ok to move the hard drive to a new PC...Spends over 1.5K on a PC but doesnt know if its ok to put a hard drive in his computer. (nothing wrong spending a lot on a gaming PC but atleast know a bit before just spending a ton of cash, its like asking can I put a CD into a CD drive which I recently purchased for $200).

But anyway, yes its ok.

Well thats good. You got my mind blown then lol

Windows 8.1 is fine. Just make sure you install a fresh copy of windows. If you need any more help then write a comment down below. Have you already purchased the RAM? You can get better for a cheaper price!

Lol, Its fine i understand your concern ;) So just to confirm, I will need to buy a new copy? or i can use my old HDD with the OS on and transfer it to my new SSD when its booted from the old HDD

Well if you have the windows 8.1 Disk (if not just download it from the their site) you can install it. You can use your old key (from your old PC) so you wont need to buy another one.
