Hello everyone

Im building myself new machine based on maximus hero VII mbo and 4790k cpu and i wanted to get dominator platinum 16gb 2133 mhz CMD16GX3M2A2133C9 it has acceptable price of 220 euro but it also have 1.65v and as it turns out 4790k can't handle that high voltages.

Will i be able to use this ram to its full potential without destroying my cpu or i need to get new ram.

I know there is one more dominator platinum kit  CMD32GX3M4A2133C9      but it cost 444 euro which is a bit to much for me.

Also found this one Corsair Vengeance Pro CMY16GX3M2A2133C11 for 169 euro but have no idea how good/bad it is.

Machine will be used for gaming,3D rendering, video editing.

All the help and info would be greatly appreciated.

High performance ram is useless, get something like 1600mhz kingston fury and leave it at that. Same goes for the motherboard, I would bet my car that you don't need any of the special features it has. Get an asus z97-a, it's more than enough for almost anything.

I have used 1.65V RAM before on my X79 rig for years and I had no problems whatsoever. In my experience, although Intel does not officially certify 1.65V RAM kits, these work flawlessly. If you like your Dominator Platinums, get them, they look amazing!

PS: While high performance RAM might not make a big difference, especially in gaming, it's cool to know you can afford to have some of that in your rig imo. :)

Dominators are overpriced (actually most Corsair memory kits are overpriced), here's a 16gb kit of 2400MHz G.Skill for less (159.85). Also, 1.65v is fine for daily usage.

Some say don't gate anything below 2133 for gaming and 3d rendering/video editing etc.... few people said you don't need that fast go for 1600 top

I will put that board through its paces and see what she got and i am going to enjoy all those nice  features of  very much. And you can bet what ever the hell you want.

And thank you hope i will enjoy here.

Yeah but cpu that was on x 79 didn't have problems running on 1.65v and 1.65V exceeds the Intel Haswell Refresh CPU recommended maximum of 1.5V+5%

And some says haswell can't handle it and it should be avoided at any time other says haswell can handle that voltage and i can manually reduce volts

A was just checking QVL on asus page and there is listed this kit CMD16GX3M2A2133C9 same one that i wanted to get and there is also listed this CMD32GX3M4A2133C9 and there it say 1.65v but that ram  have 1.5v

Got fairly big budget 2300 euro and got almost all components on the list all that is left is lets say fine tuning like getting right RAM :P

You can say that....and i really like them and they are among the best but even i won't give them that amount of money for some of the kits.

Think i will go for Vengeance Pro.

Anyways thank you all for info provided

Misinformation. It makes very little difference unless you re using an amd apu, and you're not.

To fully use that motherboard you'd need to go for LN2 overclocking, or go for quad gpu configurations. I doubt that's what you're looking for ;) in fact an overview of your other components would be nice!

But it does mean you can do all the oc you need on a much cheaper motherboard :) I told you what I think about high frequency ram, but if you say the price is good fair enough. Wouldn't give it more than 170$ if I were you. WD reds are nas hdds if I recall correctly, for a desktop you're better off buying blacks. By the way, gtx 980s don't make sense for the price. They are almost twice as expensive as a 970 and only 20% faster if that. If you can spend a little bit more (maybe by sparing on the motherboard ;) ;) ;)) I would get 2 970s in sli, no question about it. You'd get 80% more performance for 20% more money. OR, you could get 2 R9 290s (which right now would be cheaper than a single 980) and get about the same performance as two 970s, the only downside being higher power consumption.

well it is better to have one 980 then 2 970 thou in my case i will have 2 980 second card will be bought in couple if weeks.

Trident X in a Hero board look really good.

You can also turn the speed down and drop the voltage.

i was just checking them and it does look nice

By the way Happy new year  guys May it be better than the last!

It really is not. It's one of the few exceptions to the "rule" of always getting the faster single card before going sli. That "rule" is true when the price scales reasonably. In this case, the price is almost double for a pretty small performance difference. SLI 970s make a lot more sense than a single 980. If you're getting 2 980s... well let's say it's a closer call. Three 970s would perform just as well and be significantly cheaper, but not all motherboards support 3-way sli...

nd I stan by the idea that you really shouldn't get the hero. Pure waste of money imo.
