What type of fiber? Depending on the type you could run your home with it but you'd need the tools and know how to do this also you'd have to get an expensive switch ($3000+) that uses SFP and NICs with SFP for all computers unless your only looking to wire 4 deviecs then your looking at a $400 switch.

Do you have network equipment with fiber ports?

even if he does i don't think he will be able to use it because fibre channel is very different from the kind of fiber optic cable i think he is talking about

If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough it will be believed.

I guess that those 1500 ft of cable don't have any connectors on it?

You could rent the splicing equipment, to put the connectors on. Which cost about 1000$ for a week ;)

I would try to sell the cable :)

ah ok so it has proper connectors but you will still need the proper hardware and that is expensive and i don't think you will need the speed of fibre channel

You can pick up used cisco switches with sfp ports for sub 100$

I was saying for a Layer 3 lite switch with 4 gigabit SFP ports that's new is around $400, you can get SG300-20 for just under $300.
