Hello everyone!! Brand new to the site but i've been following Linus nd friends for a while now. Anyway. I am having a problem deciding on cpu stuff. I am wondering if it would be more beneficial to upgrade my rig (for my fx8320 that can only reach 4.3 stable at 1.45w on my asus m5a97 r2.0 motherboard before it tries to kill itself) to a 990fx motherboard or buy an i5 4690k with a decent motherboard. Or if i need a new psu for my set up. I have a 600w psu and i have an r9 280x. I'm not sure if my overclock is bad because of my processor, my motherboard, or my power supply :( help would be much appreciated.

Most likely motherboard because it is throttling itself down because the VRMs are overheating.  As a stop gap, try and place a fan directly over the VRMs.  Even if you have to open up the case to do so, this should help in the short term.

Unless you are truly unhappy with performance in games, don't make the switch to an i5, even though it will be beneficial in 99% of games.
