Networking help (Modem vs Router)

To my understanding, a modem is the device used to translate signals from your ISP to your router. (Modulates analog signals into binary, digital) In the diagram below which I took from my ISP, I guess the modem is the ONT.

But here is another snippet I took from another ISP. It shows this device which it calls a "dual band modem". What?? Does it mean the modem has the capabilities of both a router and modem??? So it goes straight from the data point to the modem and it acts as a router/wireless access point and connects to all your devices. Or is it a mistake on the ISPs part to call that device a modem.

Dual band modems broadcast across two wireless channels: a 2.4GHz band and a 5.0GHz band. The 5.0GHz band has a theoretical faster bandwidth speed and experiences somewhat less interference but has limited compatibility as only some devices support it. The advantages of a dual band router however, is that it can help regulate network traffic as not all devices are running off the same channel and hence clogging up the network.

Dual band is not referring to a modem and router combo. It is simply an added feature for wireless routers.

This may help. It's about tri-band but still same principle.

You are correct on both accounts here in Australia a modem/router combo is very common since majority of us only have adsl.
