External harddrive problem?

Go to solution Solved by TheGeekster,

Go back to that again, and right click, change drive paths and letters, if it's blank, add a drive letter to it so you can see it in computer

So I followed this guide
for my windows on a 1tb external usb harddrive. I got to format fs=fat32 quick and after that it said "Virtual Disk Service error: The volume size is to big". Now when I plug it in it doesnt even show up in the files at all, I cant find it to put files in it. What should I do.

I think its just easier if you use a USB and use Rufus USB to mount it onto a USB.

I am using a usb and whats a rufus usb? No offense but that also doesnt answer why I cant see it in my files on my computer.

Not a USB External Harddrive. Like an actual USB thumbdrive. Rufus is a program that mounts the ISO right onto the USB and practically does everything for you, just plug the USB into a USB 2.0 port and voila.

I think the computer went to format the drive, deleted the old partition, and when it tried to format it again, it couldn't as anything above 4GB or something like that can't use the FAT file system. What you need to do, is right click on computer on the start menu, go to manage, then go to the "Disk Management" tool on the left side. From there you should be able to reformat your USB drive so you can use it again. If yo'uve got any questions or confused about what to do when you open it, ask, don't blindly click around in there :)

Did that and reformatted it with all the options at default (File system:NTFS Allocation unit size:default and perform a quick format). But even after that and in the disk management I cant open it. Like when right clicking open isnt even clickable.

You are amazing. Thank you. Also is there anyway I could install windows with this? Or do I need a smaller one.

Unfortunately no, you need a small 4/8gb USB flash drive, due to the way it has to be used with the FAT32 file system, I know, it's a pain
