spray painting components

Go to solution Solved by Scheer,

Yeah, plastidip is a rubber of sorts so it will insulate and not dissipate the heat as well.

Pretty much every paint out there is non-conductive and will not trap heat, except for the metal flake and magnetic paints that are conductive.

Hi, I'm thinking of spray painting the heatsinks on a motherboard. I realise that this won't be possible with something like plastidip because it would probably trap the heat. So, my question is: is there a a paint out there that doesn't conduct electricity and doesn't trap heat? thanks a lot

What you're looking for is plastidip--it doesn't trap in all the heat.

This belongs in the Case Modding and Other Mods section. I'm moving the thread--the Troubleshooting sub-forum is for .. troubleshooting.

You can use plasti-dip as a coating for motherboard heatsinks but personally I don't like to since it is still an insulator, my rule of thumb is no more than 50% of the heatsink or just accents if it's plasti-dip but it's your choice since I have seen many others paint over with plasti-dip and not have any problems with thermals.

The one nice thing with plastidip is that if you see that your temps are too high, or if you get tired of it you can just pull it off a lot easier than actually painting it.
