PC Build for 2015.

Go to solution Solved by WoodenMarker,

Bottom line , upgrade GPU ( and maybe cooler and case for a quieter experience?) as long as a new monitor , and wait out for the next gen CPU's?

Cases are inherently silent. As long as you don't dislike your current case, I'd suggest just replacing the fans--same goes for your cooler.

Would you be striving for as quiet of a system as possible or just relatively quiet?

As for the monitor, upgrading it could be a great idea. I'd personally wait for 4K to become more affordable if you don't mind sticking with your current display for a bit longer.

Upgrade from your 2600 when you need to and not just when it's 'getting old'.

Hey everyone , i'm finally upgrading my 3 year old computer to something more powerful ( yay)  , so far this is how i have it in my mind

        Current                -                    Upgrade

CPU :        i7-2600                               -                         i7-4790k\i5-4690k ( depending on whether i will find a used 4790k at the time )

Mobo:       Asrock B75-pro3                 -                        Gigabyte Z97x-UD5H

RAM :       3x4GB Corsair XMS3 1333 -                         Same ( might add another 4gig stick)

Cooling : Coolermaster V8                  -                          Coolermaster Nepton 240M

GPU : Asus DC2 670                          -                           Gigabyte 970 G1 ( Or maybe the 390 if it's released before february)

PSU : XFX 750W Pro Core edition     -                            EVGA Supernova 750W G2

Storage: Samsung 840 Evo 256

Seagate Baracuda 7200 1TB  -                         Will probably stay the same ( might add another 256 SSD down the line but not of immediate importance )

Case: Coolermaster HAF 922                -                           Phanteks Enthoo Pro  Windowed

Monitor : LG Flatron W2243S               -                            Asus PB278QR

Keyboard : Coolermaster Quickfire Rapid-i  -                        Same

Mouse : Logitech G502 Proteus Core          -                        Same

OS : Windows 7 64 , Professional              -                           Same

So , what do you guys think? Budget is 1700 € . and everything has been carefully calculated  , shipping included to a sum of 1681.92€ . Any input is greatly appreciated.

Mainly Gaming and occasional movie watching .

You could just buy a 970/390 and keep your old pc. Haswell is not that much more powerful that Sandy bridge.

Hmm , i was told the same thing when i implied upgrading to ivy bridge , it's still not worth the upgrade ?

I would wait another year or two before jumping to a new platform. Since Haswell is only like 5-10% better for gaming.

You could just upgrade your graphics card. Other upgrades I would consider would be to quiet down the system with better fans. The rest looks fine.

Upgrading the cpu isn't necessarily a bad idea if you your games are suffering from a lack of faster single thread performance but that's not likely.

Damn , couple of FPS wouldn't justify the cost i guess .

Pretty much this , one of my goals is to quiet down my system , since the Case as well as the CPU cooler sound like a 747 lifting off while gaming.

I'd recommend to keep your PC as it's and just upgrade the GPU with 290/290x and upgrade the whole rig after couple of years

I'd just want a relatively quiet experience , which is quite impossible with tthe 922 , i can practically hear every single mechanical part and\or fan from inside my case , i know it's optimized for maximum airflow , but it's just TOO OPEN :P

I found the Phanteks Enthoo Pro to be a good in-between  from my 922 and the NZXT H440 i initially had in mind. Also i really am not fascinated by 4K to that extend , i know it's going to be a good 2 years before we get a consumer grade playable experience at 4k , without having to go overkill with dual 980's or as we saw on one of linus's vids , dual 290x's with 8gigs of VRAM on each :P That's why i think 1440p is quite an upgrade from 1080p without going overboard.

Having a quiet system in a HAF 922 is very doable as long as you properly quiet down noisy parts and remove louder parts altogether but it's not a bad idea to upgrade to a more updated case.

I would recommend something like this: http://de.pcpartpicker.com/p/QtQxkL

Replace the gtx v8 fans with TY-141's. Add the 200mm to the side panel for intake. Order some rubber screws to use for fans where possible. I hope you're running your fans at reduced speeds either with a fan controller or through the motherboard.

Suspend the hdd with some type of flexible cord or open cell foam like me.

If you want to get a better display, PB278Q: http://de.pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-monitor-pb278q

Hmm , i thought the PB278QR would be a better option since it's the newer version .
